The Orpington was developed by William Cook in the village of Orpington in Kent in 1886. The first colour to be deleloped was the Black, followed by white, buff and so on. The Lavendar and Silver-Pencilled are newest colours to be developed.
Orpingtons are beautiful birds with individual characters. They are great for the garden and are good with children and other animals.
We have birds available from day old to POL, in most colours, please contact us for more information or to reserve/preorder birds.

There are a number of colours available, here at Fritton Poultry we keep Orpingtons in the following colours:

White, Black, Buff, Blue Cuckoo, Cuckoo, Gold Partridge, Jubilee, Gold Laced, Splash, Blue, Lavender, Crele, Lemon Crele.
Hatching eggs are available from most colours as are Day Old chicks.

Further Information:
The Black and the White orpington were the first two colours of Orpington to be developed by William Cook. The Black has a beautiful, irridescent, beetle-green sheen to its plumage and the whites are snowy and bright. Our Blacks have received various prizes including numerous firsts and a Best Soft Feather In Show trophy.
The whites have yet to be shown but we added a new bloodline to our stock last year so this years birds should be bigger and better than ever!
The Buff Orpington is the most popular colour of orpington. The Buff is a beautiful golden colour. Our Buffs are all show quality and have also won various prizes including Best Buff Orpington in 2005 and 2006.
The Cuckoo orpington has barred black and white markings, similar to a Maran, and soft cushioned feathers. Our Cuckoos have yet to be shown but show excellent Orpington type with big fluffy "petticoats" and are true to all breed standards.

The Partridge Orpington is one of the rarer colours and is one of our personal favourites. In our experience they also seem to be the best laying colour of Orpington, probably owing to their genetic makeup.
The Gold Laced colour of Orpington is also rare and is simply beautiful. Each golden feather is outlined with irridescent black.
The Jubilee Orpington is a very rare colour of Orpington, developed in 1897, this colour of Orpington was named after the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

The Crele is one of the newest colours to be developed. Our birds originate from the Kennfarbig Orpingtons from Denmark and one of our cock birds won at the National Federation Show 2006. From these we have developed our beautiful Lemon Crele.
